Learn moreThe majority of porters and guides working on various mountains in Africa do so in substandard conditions. They are underpaid but accept the jobs because, for many of them, there are no other alternatives. Furthermore, they are insufficiently trained in mountain safety techniques and due to their low wages cannot even afford the most basic climbing gear. The African Ascent Project is committed to improving the working conditions and uplifting the lives of all guides and porters working on African Mountains with a current focus on Mount Kilimanjaro.
Through donations and educational programs, we are working to ensure that all guides and porters are adequately equipped, educated and empowered both as individuals and in their professional capacity.
The African Ascent Project is a registered Section 21 NPO in South Africa.
