Cedar Hill Animal Sanctuary
Caledonia, MS

Why was Cedarhill established?
It breaks my heart, but there is a large and growing, unregulated market for exotic felines like tigers and lions. It seems so obvious to caring people, that these wild animals wouldn’t make good pets. But there are always those who buy these animals – for novelty or vanity – for “watch cats” or because many times, they’re such cute cubs. These unthinking people believe they can keep their pet in the basement or garage…that a lion or tiger will grow to love them — or at least fear them. They don’t. These are wild animals but cruelly, they’ve been de-clawed and defanged, robbed of their natural ability to survive in the wild. They’ll always need to be kept safe and secure. That’s what we do at Cedarhill.

Where did the cats at Cedarhill come from?
Most of our cats come from private homes where the owners realized they could no longer care for their animals. Some came from zoos who, for one reason or another, could no longer use the animal for exhibit. And some have been saved from the canned hunts (where a person with too much money and not enough humanity and sense, can shoot a captive exotic animal for “sport”), or were confiscated from drug dealers.

How is Cedarhill funded?
We rely solely on tax-deductible donations from individuals and private institutions. We’re a 501 ©(3) organization and receive no government funding.

What do you do with my donations?
Cedarhill is deeply committed to the rescue of animals in need. We operate entirely on donations, (tax deductible), and are grateful for your contributions, large or small, which are vital to the continued treatment, rehabilitation, and support of the animals in our care. Administrative expenses average a very low 14%.
